Graduate Housing FAQ

How long will I remain on the waiting list?

Graduate housing is very limited. The length of time depends on demand.  Please Contact us with questions.

How is the waiting list prioritized?

The waiting list is prioritized by the date we receive the application.  Admission decisions will be made by June 15. 

Is the deposit refundable?

The $300 deposit is refundable until you sign a lease. After vacating your unit, charges will be assessed for any damages and the remaining balance will be refunded, provided your account is paid in full.

Who can live with me?

Occupancy is limited to individual graduate students and non-traditional aged learners (25 years and older) who are enrolled and registered at SPU. Units are not co-ed.

Is there a guest policy?

If you want to host a guest overnight you must inform Housing Services in writing in advance at housing@36837a.com and get approval from your housemates.  If the guest is a minor (under 18 years old) then you must also obtain approval from Housing Services before allowing the guest to stay overnight.  Guests may only stay overnight with hosts of their same gender.  Guests must abide by all University policies and may not occupy or use residential facilities for more than four days or nights per quarter.

What is the lease term?

The lease term is an 11 month term from August 15 - July 15.  Shared Graduate Housing is designed to provide transitional housing for Graduate students.

What is the registration requirement?

You must be registered at SPU for a minimum of nine undergraduate or six graduate credits each quarter of residency, excluding summer.

Are pets allowed?

No pets, except fish (25-gallon tank maximum), may be on your property.

Are laundry facilities available?

Yes. Through a vendor mobile app, residents have access to cashless payment for laundry facilities in their building.

What types of units are available? Where are they located?

The inventory consists of older Queen Anne houses located on campus or within walking distance. Houses range from three to four bedrooms. Students will have a single occupancy bedroom and share common areas, including a bathroom and kitchen.

Are units furnished?

Yes, all residents are provided with an extra-long twin bed, dresser, desk, and chair. Each unit also includes living room and dining room furniture.

What utilities are included?

Electricity, gas, water, sewer, cable, and garbage collection services are included in the rent charge. 

May I view the units?

When space becomes available, we will contact the first eligible student on the waiting list to schedule a time to tour the unit. 

Can I renew my lease for the following year?  

Shared Graduate Housing is designed to provide transitional housing for Graduate students.  If we have low demand in a given year current residents will be given the option to renew but must vacate the unit from July 15 - August 15.
