CIS HelpDesk

The Computer and Information Systems HelpDesk offers computer support services to students, faculty, and staff by phone, online, email, or in person.

The CIS HelpDesk supports SPU students for technology resources such as SPU Online Services, email accounts, campus printing, connecting from home to the SPU resources, use of classroom technology, the campus network, and limited personal computer equipment support.

Connect to wireless

These instructions are for personal computers, iPhones, tablets, and other devices with a web browser. If you do not have a web browser on your device (most commonly gaming devices), go to CIS’s online registration page.

  1. Connect your device (laptop, smartphone, iPad, etc.) to SPU-Wireless. The network key (password) is case sensitive and is SPU-Wireless (the same as the network name).
  2. Open a web browser and log in with your SPU username (do not include the “@36837a.com”) and your password.

Download software

CIS maintains the SPU Download Center, where students can download licensed software to their personal computers at little to no cost. Visit 36837a.com/download to learn more.

Campus printing services

SPU has a campuswide copier/printer solution for students. Visit the CIS Student Printing page for more information.

Viruses, phishing, and spoofing

To prevent computer viruses, all computers need regular maintenance to keep them running effectively and ensure the security of the system. Visit the Keep a Computer Healthy page on the CIS wiki to learn about anitivirus options, backing up personal information, and more.

Phishing is a type of scam where a scammer presents themselves as a legitimate business, person, or entity in an attempt to get private data such as credit card information.

Maintaining secure email practices and identifying fraudulent behavior are important when it comes to avoiding email scams. Regard as suspicious emails that ask you to disclose sensitive information such as credit card information, social security numbers, passwords and usernames, or any other sensitive personal data, and proceed with caution. Contact the HelpDesk if you feel unsure about an email.

Spoofing is when a fraudulent email is sent from a fake email address, often one that is intended to look like the email was sent by someone the recipient knows. Outlook has built in protections against spoofing, and will often flag suspected emails.

Technology emergencies

To report an urgent technical problem during CIS non-business hours, contact SPU’s Office of Safety and Security at 206-281-2922.

Security officers are available to handle your call and forward pertinent information to the appropriate CIS technician.
